For those not in the know, NaNoWriMo stands for National authors National official Writing real Interesting Month of. The general gist seems to be that you have to write a complete novel of 50K words or 50K words of the start of a novel.

I don't really know much about the whole thing. This will be my first time. I am a NaNoWriMo virgin. This will be the first time I have sex with NaNoWriMo. However it seems like a cool idea. The official websites is here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/
I will check that out when I'm now sober.

Anyway, since the writing forum is pretty dead, let's have some fun with this! Who's in, and what are you gonna write?

Title: Writer of Truth and Myth
This is the first year that I actually have time to do Nano (since I'm out of work), but I'm in full revision mode and refuse to start my next project until I've finished and completed much needed research. Oh. And actually decided what the first book will entail. :)

I'm going to be trying this year, i desperately need some motivation to get me rolling again. I'll be working on the repeatedly abandoned fantasy i've been dragging around since last year, so perhaps i'll finally have some success with it. No outline, and no idea of much past the beginning and the end (all of my old plans have, essentially, been invalidated) so i figure i'll probably fail spectacularly in four or five days, but ah well.

I'm kind of doing it. I have three essays to finish first, then I want to sort of try and catch up but I'm thinking I'll not sign in and include what I already have in my total count with the goal of reaching 50 000 all up. Now that uni is nearly over for the year I'll probably be around this board a bit more :)

I'm also taking a ride on the vicious mechanical bull that is NaNoWriMo.

As of this exact moment I'm up to 29,000 words in my metafictional vampire college horror satire, which puts me about 91% on target since my goal for the end of today is 31,774. I started November with about 13000 words written, so my actual November total is 15,394.

Done. :D I wrote what was for me a record-breaking 25k in the last four days of Nanowrimo. I've built up so much writing momentum that I think I'm just going to plunge straight into novel #5. I doubled my Nanowrimo target to 100k, and my wordcount graph of pretty colours is now looking scary again.

Yeah yeah, that's pretty good Alaerien, but did you beat my one-day high score of 11,750? hmm, hmm, didja? :D

Sorry, I'm also filled with irrational jealous hate, seeing as I'm failing Nano myself. :/ Well. Getting a B at it. I'm almost 10,000 words below where I planned to be. To be fair, I was derailed by a new manager coming in to make life at work even worse as she and her obnoxious new hires try to "save the company" with her "20 years of experience" and all that cal, while I get to be the scapegoat for all the "wrong" and horrible processes my former manager left since I'm the only dumbass that hasn't been turned over in that department. So I ended up going to interview for a different job and had to practice my speeches and all that. Writing's been kinda sidetracked.

That and I'm not too confident with what I've written so far. The first chapter seemed good, but the two I've written in November... well, they're certainly not the most tightly written or even interesting. What I intended to be slow-burning and tense may have come out as meandering. :uhoh: I guess I will plow forward though, just so I can say I didn't give up. I could still end up with a solid 40k words by the end of the month.

Well, I pretty much failed NanoWrimo. Not an epic fail. More of a potboiler fail. My novel now has 46,000 words, about 33,000 of which were actually written in November. Hopefully a few of those words came out good enough to keep.

I wrote... a couple of hundred?

In my defence, I've been moving house, and trying to get a job. I also got bogged down in a complicated short story on the side. Also, for the last couple of months, I've been accidentally writing a brief guide to the history of western philosophy for another board I'm on, and it's unexpectedly ended up around 50,000 words, which, it occurs to me, may be rather too much time and effort for something that's likely to be almost entirely ignorant and false. 25k of that was in November, I think, and if you add in 5k of a short story, and probably around 10k on other projects, I actually didn't come far from the Nanowrimo target!

Just, you know, in an entirely accidental, useless and unwanted way.

[Actually, adding in other posts on various boards, plus a few book reviews on my blog, I must have easily passed the threshold. Which is, I suppose, encouraging for any future attempt]

Thanks. ;) It was a pleasant break from tearing up my terrible novel which will never be ready to query.
